Default 1992 240 wagon doesn't idle or run right. HELP

hey guys my 240 wagon is having problems. The car starts right up and will idle great at first. Then i put it in drive and pull out it is fine for about a minute or so. Then the idle starts to go up and down and if im driving the car and come to a stop the engine tries to die and sometimes it actually does. If it is in gear it tries to die but in neutral or park it just revs up and down above idle.(about 600-1000 im guessing) And the speed of the rythem is one cycle in about 3 seconds.
Also the car has no power. I step all the way down and it doesnt pull. It hesitates and once i get moving a bit it starts to take off at a normal speed.
HELP

I would start by checking the trouble codes, see the LH2.4 section:
http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-90...neOBDCodes.htm

It could be a dirty throttle body, a bad idle control valve, or the throttle position switch might need adjusted.

I seem to be having a problem similar to this. My car is also a 1992 240 Wagon. When starting my car for the first time in the day, it runs fine. It seems to have the issue after turning the car off for a couple minutes to run into a store or something. It will start, but it idles terribly, and gets close to dying. Eventually after driving it enough, it'll pick up in speed and come out of the idling issue. I've done some research on this, and it could range from needing a tune up, to a new Mass Air Flow Sensor, to the throttle body, to the idle control valve, or the throttle switch. Basically, I just wonder where I should start with the trouble shooting of this.

I'd check for engine codes first as the previous poster recommended. From there, proceed depending on which codes are thrown. As far as idle problems, look for any potential vacuum leaks. Check all the hoses including the accordian hose that runs from the AMM to the throttle body. If all that checks out, check the throttle body itself and see if it needs cleaning. It can get gunked up in there keeping the throttle switch from closing. From there, check the throttle position switch for proper functioning.

Good luck

I've gotten codes already from the diagnostic box. Ports 3 and 6 are the only ports my car has for testing and both read ok. I'll go ahead and look at vacuum hoses and the throttle body when I can.
Thanks
