Default 1992 940 - Hesitation Issue

The problem surfaced about a year ago and hasn't increased in frequency. Periodically, after I come to a stop, the car will hesitate when I press on the accelerator. Usually, it just resumes full power as if nothing happened, but yesterday it stalled out completely for the first time. Other than this infrequent hesitation, there is zero indication that anything is wrong with the fuel system.

I did run a diagnostic, and the only code I get is 2-3-3. However, there are no real indications that the idle valve is acting up aside from the code itself.

I am thinking to start by replacing the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter. Neither have been replaced in the last six years. Any advice on other components that could be causing this issue? Am I starting in the right place, or is it possible the idle control valve is responsible?

Thanks for your time - Cheers

Why don't you start with the valve? Take it out and clean it! The indication is very much that the valve is involved. The fuel components are not the cause of the problems you describe.

Yes, clean that valve. They are quite a large bypass valve and can really leak or stop a lot of air from moving if they stick.
On my car I had a slight hesitation and almost stall out on occasions, enough to be irritating but not often enough to be bothered chasing.
Everything on the engine was new or in good repair, no codes.
I replaced teh 2 sensor as it was due and the problem disappeared. I don't know how or why the O2 sensor was linked to the issue, as that sensor is not referenced at idle, but there you go.

Regards, Andrew.

Do you hear any humming or buzzing sounds when at idle ?

UPDATE**

The other day I replaced the fuel filter, and then removed the throttle body and idle valve and cleaned them thoroughly. In addition, I also replaced the throttle switch and the flame trap. Long story short, the car is running like a watch again; idles even better than before and NO hesitation.

Thanks again for the advice!
