1992 940 starts with plug wire out near ground
Hi everyone, I am new to Volvo and this great forum!
My 1992 940 Volvo stalls at stops and sometimes while driving. The rpm drops and the engine cuts off. It takes a few or many trys to crank the engine over and then it will start. But what I do notice is if I pull the spark plug wire out and put it 3/4 in. to the block, the engine cranks everytime in the first try.
Could this be the Hall sensor or something else like the ground loose somewhere?
Thanks for the replies!

RE: 1992 940 starts with plug wire out near ground
I check the speed sensor (rpm or crank) and it had a tear on the outer black sheathing and was making contact to the engine block's hoisting mount (eye).
I also checked the ignition power stage module and plug which looked good.
I went to the local volvo dealer and bought both sensor and module. I will update the fourm with the results in a couple of days.
Thanks Tech!

I replaced both speed sensor and ignition power stage module and drove it for 30 mins with no problem. After I had parked and started it a few times it was fine. After the 10th time doing this, it started then died. I tried to duplicated the start and died routine and I was able to tap the fuel pump relay when it was dying and it started to run again. I guess I will replace the fuel pump relay tomorrow and test drive it again.
