Hi, I bought my first Volvo 240 (1992) with less than 120k miles recently and have completed most of the required services. Problem: I can't figure out a graceful way to pull the Oil Separator. I did a dry run at a local junk yard. After removing the Throttle Body, AIC, and the EGR, the two 12mm mounting bolts were easily accessible. I then tried to move the Oil Separator upward to clean the bottom drain tube. The upward movement was blocked by the wiring harnesses. By loosening the clamping bolts, I was able to yank the Oil Separator out without breaking anything. I then tried practicing installation. This was even worse than removal. Since the Oil Separator is supposed to be cleaned every 20k miles, there must be a better way. Could someone teach me how to do this job properly? What's a good way to clean the Oil Separator itself? Flame trap is easily accessible. I cleaned it with gasoline. Thanks. Oil Separator: bottom drain tube Oil Separator: Top tube connects to Flame Trap Hose. Oil Separator: Drain on left. Crankcase vent on right.
