1993 940 auto, non turbo wagon

Default 1993 940 auto, non turbo wagon

Can someone tell me the name and function of the black box located on the firewall directly behind the cylinder head and next to the distributor. There are no wires going to it. I opened it up and found only a square (4" X 4" X 1") piece of metal enclosed in silicone.

I believe that was for the 6 Cylinder engines so the Cam can be removed.
It would slide to inside the car.
