Hi all, I have a '89 245 that was recently painted. I removed the mid metal/plastic side molding trim, rocker panel trim, and lower door plastic trim. I have a couple questions regarding reinstallation.
Question 1)
I find the trim clips for the mid metal/plastic side molding trim and rocker panel trim pieces on line from different vendors at greatly varying prices. Q: What is your prefered vendor of choice for these parts? [side trim PN:1372059, 50 pieces / rocker panel trim PN: 1304520 26 pieces]
Question 1)
The lower plastic door trim pieces seem to be held on with a combination of double-stick adhesive tape and have a couple alignment dowels / integrated attached clips. The tape requires replacement and the few clips are broken.
My thought is to a) clean the plastic trim of all old adhesive and use new 3/M body double stick body moulding tape. And, b) center drill the few alignment dowels / attached clip positions and use a m5 black stainless flat head screw through the trim with a fender washer and locknut on the inside of the door. Q: Has anyone done this to reattach the side trim? What other recommendations do you have to reattach the lower plastic door side trim pieces?
Thank you for responding. After Nason Smoke Gray Before OE Silver Metallic

That sounds like a good plan The only thing I have to add is you might want to spread a thin layer of clear silicon adhesive on the ends and clamp them for 24 hours. That is what I did when the ends of my body trim were coming loose. Works well. As far as preferred vendors, that depends, there are many reputable ones out there that I deal with. For something non critical as trim clips, I would go with who has the best price and shipping policy.
