Picked up a pair of center caps for my 1987 245. I'm just wondering if the stock steel wheels changed at all on the 240s from during their last two generations. Maybe I'm mistaken but I think there are from an older 240 than mine. Is there any clips or that would hold these on there? Don't want to test this and lose them, fit seems ok but they pop off very easy with a screwdriver.
cdubb, the steel wheels stayed the same for at least the 80's through '93. The hubcaps went to a 2 piece plastic full wheel cover in '86 (to go along with the new Euro look restyling that year) and then a 1 piece plastic full wheel cover sometime around '89.The '85 and before had a stainless steel pie-plate with a small center cap to hold it in place, along with a stainless trim ring around the rim of the wheel. Those centercaps are much smaller than what you have pictured. I think those caps are from a p1800 or maybe an Amazon. AFAIK any 240 hubcap system will fit on any 240 wheel.
they aren;t from an amazon, maybe a 140 series or early 240 ? Im not sure of 86 but maybe about 82? If the do pop on and you like them they must be close maybe you could make the bump a bit higher? would a little mig weld bead or maybe thread in a tiny round headed screw or something? roughen it up and do a little blob of JB weld maybe?
my tire shop broke one and they ponied up for a new set from Canadain tire, they were pretty cheap so an option might be an after market set of plastic ones. 740 wheels probably fit too, the offset might be a tad different if you are so technical,
