Default 240 crankshaft position sensor problems!

Hello everyone I am new to the site and glad to be here.

I recently purchased a 1990 240 wagon and had some ignition problems, after serching through everything I think I narrowed it down to the crankshaft position sensor.

I've changed them more than a few times but have never had the trouble that this one has given me. I unbolted the 10mm bolt and everything was ok untill I realized the sensor was stuck in the bracket on the bell housing of the transmission. I tried prying and tapping with a hammer and all I accomplished was breaking the top of the sensor off. I don't really know of any other way of getting the sensor out and I'm really really trying to avoid seperating the transmission from the engine.

Any help with this would be greatly appretiated, and yes I tried the search and didn't find anything.
