OK. It still sounds like a good deal. I hope it's not too good to be true. at the current exchange rate, it's about $425. I hope that some of the experts will respond with more substantive issues, but the obvious rust, cracks in the interior plastic, upholstery, etc.
Do drive it. Listen to the engine and exhaust. it should start up quickly and strongly. Feel for any mushiness in brakes or lack of pickup when accelerating. operate everything you can think of: lights, windows, washers, wipers. Open everything, especially the hood, and look. Check the tread on the tires. lift the rugs if you can and check the floors for rust or holes - there probably will not be any -- this is a Volvo after all, but . . . See if the current owner has the manuals and especially the service records. If it has passed Canadian inspection processes, it will likely be ok in U.S., but one of the best things is to take it to a mechanic you trust to look it over. I assume you are near Canadian border and get to it easily?
Another consideration is that if the car is in Canada and you will be bringing it back, there might be additional fees or taxes. Customs duties? Not familiar with that kind of international transaction.
Bottom line is, if you love it and it runs, and you want a new toy, it's cheaper than a computer. Go for it.

Nick,
I had previously seen your other post so knew it was an '86. Now I have checked again and see tech's reply and I agree: this seems like a good deal.
The cracking, if it is minor, is acceptable and actually pretty good for these cars. The interior plastic are often in fairly bad shape, usually due to sun exposure for the dash. So my last word of advice is, again, if you like it, get it, and if you don't have a garage or carport for it, buy a tarp and keep her covered.

I think it is a steal. If I were there I woud buy it. In north carolina rust is not a problem but I looked at a volvo wagon with 150,000 miles , dented passenger fender, missing trim on body, needed new seats, no door pockets, he wanted $3,100 I suggested $500. The good volvos go fast here and for 1800-3000$ It was a 1993 in crappy shape. No sale.
