240 DL Changed Shifter Housing/Now not starting
Hey...my first post and I come with a question.
Changed the shifter housing on 1990 240 DL today. Removed OD switch, the shift **** and push button on top. Put on new housing and now the car won't start. Prior to this, occasionally car would not start and you would need to ensure it was in park by dropping car to low and put it back into park and it would start right up. Yeah, you can still shift through the gears without foot on break or car turned on. I have searched through the forums and this car, too, when in reverse, the reverse lights do not work.
My question is this. Why will car not start now? I have to know ASAP!!!! My son drives the car and we need it up and running soon! Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to the Forum,
Since your car is an automatic see if this PNP switch is in good order, from your post it sounds like this was an ongoing problem. Also you were working in that area. See the link below, the pictures explain much better than I can.
Additionally there are bushings in the shifter linkage that go away with time. They can cause a good deal of play in the shifter, and introduce the kind of problems you mentioned. Why did you replace the shifter housing initially? Post back on your findings.
Good Luck
