240 DL fuel filter

Can anyone tell me which way the fuel filter goes? My son took it off, then left and I need to get the new one in. Does the flat side, or the curved side go forward toward the engine?

It's year is 1990

I believe the fittings are different sizes, so it will only go one way.

I am talking about the canister itself.

The flange end of the filter is the OUT (exit) end, towards the engine.
