240 rear speaker options
My daughter wants a new stereo for her 1989 240 DL for Christmas. I was surprised to see that the car only has two speakers located in the front doors. No rear speakers.
So my question is, what have some of you done to mount speakers in the rear? Did you mount them on the rear shelf? In the rear doors? Any tips would be appreciated and pictures of what you did would be even better!
Thx,
Bob G

RE: 240 rear speaker options
Happy Thanksgiving!
In reality, you can ultimately mount speakers anywhere you want. I would assume that if it is a 4 door, the rear doors probably have the hole there for speakers, but no speakers. If that is the case, you will just need to run speaker wire(paying close attention to the positive and negative sides of the speaker wire) from the radio/cd player/etc to speakers you purchased and installed. If there are no "holes" for speakers, you will need to make a way to mount the speakers, either in the doors, or behind the back seats. Then, mount the speakers and run wires to them. If it is a factory radio, the radio should have a diagram of what the radio wires are for, by color. Then you just splice the speaker wires to the matching wires on the radio, connect to the speaker, and have a nice day. Beyond that, take it to an automotive sound shop, and let them do it all. It very well may be difficult. I've had my share of "fun with volvo radios" already.
