Default 240 sound system

I want to upgrade my 240s speakers, nothing crazy but my head unit (Sony GTX-GT07) goes up to 35 volume, but anything above 12 gets super static-y even if I use a CD or aux cord to my phone. Currently, I have PowerAcoustik XP2K-42 4" 2-way speakers with 110-watt output, 4 OHM impedance, with an 8 oz magnet. I have 1 of these in each front door and with it only going up to 12 volume, it's very hard to hear. My hope is that it isn't an electrical problem and is just the speakers but I need some input.

actually, your speakers need the input!

i don't see a question in your post. wouldn't it be simple enough to plug in your speakers to find out if they work? that's what i'd do.

Sorry, I left out some stuff but the head unit was recently bought by the previous owner and even more recently installed and wired by me. It is currently installed and wired up to the speakers. My question is how do I know if the static when the volume is above 12 is being caused by bad speakers or bad wiring? and if the cause is likely bad speakers, what are some good aftermarket door speakers to look into?

the stock front door mounts on a 240 only holds quite small speakers, and if you send them too much bass, they WILL distort heavily. if you're going to run a high power system, you need 'bass blocker' capacitors in series with the smaller speakers to keep that bass out of them, and let the larger speakers you presumbly have somewhere else handle that.

I remember having a hard time finding a decent high quality speaker that would fit in that front door position without blocking the window from going down. I ended up with some low profile Rockford Fosgates that were rated for up to 100 watts even tho my amp was only 4 x 50 watts. I had installed some high quality 6.5" 2-way component speakers in the 240's rear deck, which could put out lots of bass and sound very clean, these had external crossovers, so I added the bass filter caps to the front doors so they could provide good mid and treble.

many good component speaker makers out there, including Focal, & JL Audio (two of my favorites)

depends on the cause of the problem. if your stereo has the settings for it, you might try setting the front speaker size to something small, and don't use any bass boost ('loudness'), see if that improves things.

if those door speakers are original, they are like 30 years old, and probably toast.
