Default 240 wagon backseat latch stuck

I have can 88 240dl and my back seat latch is missing. It's just the metal wire and the wire housing. I was able to manually pull the wire while holding the housing to release the seat latches and put it down but lately it will only engage the right side latch. The left side won't budge. Does anyone know what can be done??

Thanks.

What can be done is a proper repair of the mechanism. Get a latch, take the thing apart, lube it up, make sure it's all there and engages as it should. There is just no substitute for repairing things.

How do you repair it? It looks like the mechanism that's having trouble is inside the rear seat-back. How do you get in there??

Ha! I figured it out. I did not know there were TWO wires, one for each side. The left side wire was hiding inside the back seat, it wasn't until I snooped around on this site that I found someone reference to "both wires"....

How DO you repair it?

My latch broke off and I bought a new one to replace it. But it looks like I have to tear the whole back seat apart to get to it. Is that right?

the cushion should come off the seat back frame fairly easily. I think you pull the pins out of the top of the seat...
