Default 240 Wired for Fogs?

Hey 240 Guys,

I have a question:

if I have a fog switch on my dash that lights up, and what seems to be fog wiring up by my headlights, could that be pre-wired fog lighting? I have a 1992 240, and I was thinking about throwing Hella fog lights on, but not sure where to start.

Blessings,

Mike

Not sure about Volvo but I spent ten years with VW/Audi and they tended to keep things simple by using as few different harnesses as possible. so, often, every option was wired in, missing only the appropriate switch in many cases, and the actual option in a few (seat heaters for example). Sockets would have plastic plugs in most cases if they were exposed to weather.

That is the rear fog light switch. Turn them on in conditions where you can't see the cars in front of you, hopefully so people behind will see you. The bulbs are the same wattage/brightness as brake light bulbs. If the rear taillamps are still wired as original the rear fog lights are the upper inner red lenses on a sedan. The lower outer brake/taillamp bulb holders/taillamp assembly melts due to the heat from the brake lights and a free fix is to move the brake light wire to the rear fog position. (instead of replacing the taillamp assembly) then you have no rear fogs -

Front fog lamp switch for that car is a rocker switch in the center console (if equipped) with a green lens. And the car is not wired for front fog lamps from the factory.

Hoonk is exactly right, but I will add some detail. These are common on German and Swedish cars in the past; but with one little difference in US spec autos. The rear fog is only one light, on the left hand side. Bright as a brake light, but just one. Maybe to ovoid confusing other drivers who approach your vehicle in the fog and slam on the brakes because they think you are braking?
