Default 350,000+ mile 1987 240 wagon

I'm brand new and here to discuss my '87 240 DL with over 350,000 miles.

I deliver pizza in it every day, not the greatest gas mileage, as the tranny won't shift in to 4th, but I love the car. It does have a couple of issues, but I deal. The blower fan went out last year, which may become an issue this winter. The 'pre-heater' hose rusted out and I took it off, so it's a little loud and 'truck-ish.' The undercarriage is rust city, worse than I've seen on any car, ever. I think the least of my concerns is the back passenger brake light will not work for the life of me.. I've re-wired it a number of times, and obviously changed the bulb, but to no avail.

Oh well, I love the car, and it starts up beautifully every day.

It sat out the blizzard of 2006, but we hit the road again when spring came.

Welcome to the forum.

Your brake light issue could be the bulb failure warning sensor.

Here's mine, if I can get it to upload...

Year 'round.

Here’s mine. Lots of chrome. I’m afraid if it isn’t the fan relay or the switch then that blower can’t be repaired without quite a bit of the dashboard being removed. Fortunately, taking apart your dashboard will be fairly simple. Unlike most cars, everything that can be removed in a 240 is held in place with several easily-accessible screws, it’s almost as if they wanted us to take them apart. Check your fuses of course, that could be the fan and the brake light right there. Also check for bad grounds where you can.

I got terrible mileage until I realized that I was only firing on two cylinders, new spark plugs and leads and it started running great. Pretty close to that original 100 horsepower.

I don’t really miss my fan myself, it’s getting cold now in Seattle and if I turn on the heat the natural ventilation moves enough heat inside to car to be comfortable.

ah they all sound beautiful to me.
and only 'we' would think so
thats fine!

i admit im not as cool - i have a 90 740 turbo - black with tan leather though
i like the ride and the power (its quick for a 2.3 4 liter) but i miss the robustness of the 2
performance tires for 3 seasons and VERY progressive snows for the winter

my blower squeaks on 1 and 2 and rumbles on 3 but it works
no ac
radio will NOT work no matter what i do
passenger rear door only stays shut when its locked so i disconected the power lock to it
powermoon roof has become a manual moon roof - very easy and more reliable
kick plate on the rear hatch is flopping all over

BUT you can spill coffee in it - you can smash a shopping cart out of the way instead of getting out and moving it - you can make as many burn holes as you like - you can track as much mud and snow as youd like in it
because it runs like a **** (even though i had to replace the fuel filter just today haha!)
but yeah they run and run and run and are fun to work on
and for some reason everyone always wants ME to drive
funny eh?
