Default 740 GLE station wagon power window replacement

Hello fellow Volvoheads!

I'm Lorenzo, new here and lucky owner of a gorgeous 740 GLE station wagon! I'm writing as I'm in dire need of your wisdom!

I have to replace the power window motor from the front-right window, so I ordered the part from a renown german vendor. Once the package arrived here, I found out the new part is way smaller than the broken original one, thus unusable. I double checked with the vendor and I made sure I ordered the correct part. Other vendors also list the same part as the correct replacement for my 740 GLE.

I'm a little bit lost here... Is it possible that the GLE variant of the 740 has a different and unique part? And if so where could I find one? I couldn't find a used one either

Thank you very much in advance for your precious precious help, have a lovely Volvo day!

Lorenzo

The GLE means nothing in this case. May be the year makes a difference?

Thank you Iev for the reply and sorry for my late reply!

The year should have been correct, I sent the vendor the chassis number and the year of first registration. Unfortunately I haven't even taken any pic of the spare part before returning it

I guess I'll have to keep looking around for used parts, I should be safe then

What year is the car? Motors of that vintage hardly ever go bad, unlike the regulators...

Thank you again Iev for your help!

An electrician had a look at it and he says it's the motor unfortunately. Sorry for the ignorance, but where do I find the regulator? I may have a second looks at it!

Thank you!

The regulator is the mechanism which operates the window up and down, the motor is what powers it and is a part of the regulator the two often sold together. You have to remove the regulator to get at the motor. You should do just that. You can buy the motor used, they rarely go bad and last usually last longer than the regulators, and are widely available. Voluparts has many, I am sure, and will be happy to oblige. It will be cheaper too.

Many many thanks Iev!!

I'll follow your suggestion then, one last thing though: do you have any hint to keep the window in place? I may still need to use the car while I'm checking the motor.

I'll post updates when I'll check the regulator, thank you very much again!

You can manually slide the glass up and wedge something like a piece of wood under the lower edge to keep it up there once the regulator is out.
