740 issues
Hi guys, I'm a new member. I've visited in the past but thought I'd join to ask a few questions. I have a 1988 740 wagon. The stock radio I had in it was acting up so I decided to put in a new Alpine which was already installed in an old car of my daughters. Stopped at Best Buy for an installation kit and the guy told me I'm gonna have to do a lot of wiring. I know that the amp cord does not match up to the radio. Anyone out there have any info that would help? Is it true the amp is wired into the steering column?
Two other questions I have. Where is the front and rear wiper pump? And does anyone have any suggestions on replacing the interior roof upholstery? Mine is in terrible shape. Thanks for any help. Drive safe. Mike[&o]

RE: 740 issues
It is a pain to wire it. You will have to get a wiring diagram. Then disconnect the wires to the speakers from the Amp. Then run wires from the Radio down to the other wires you just disconnected.
The washer pumps are mounted on the fill bottle.
Do a search we have had a big discussion about replacing the sunroof headliner.

www.ipdusa.com has instructions for doing the headlliner that you can download. I bought this kit which was rather expensive. The headlliner is a pain to do. You can buy the headliner fabric with foam backing at the local foam and fabric outlet. It will be much cheaper. Get the 3m adhesive and do not skimp on it (mine started coming down again). You have one chance to get it right if you press too hard it glues the foam together and looks bad. I have a sedan so it was hard to get the headliner out. You basically take it out and wire brush it by hand to get all the old deterioated foam off then glue the new fabric in place. I am not looking forward to my next one.
