Default 740 Timing belt and valves

My 1990 740 blew a timimg belt right thru it's plastic casing. I was told that this probably bent the valves and I will most likly need a new head.
Thoughts?

Not likely, but could happen if the valve stuck in the guide. Another head is not always the answer either. Valves are cheap.

Assuming you have the B230F, it is a non-interference engine. If you have a GLE with the dual cam B234 then you may be hurt. The real issue when cam belts break is whether it was the cause of the issue or the result of an issue. I've seen a few seized cams from poor oiling that froze and broke the belt. If that's the case then a new head may very well be in your future. When the cam seizes, it pretty much ruins the cam journals.
