79 244DL "Lambda sond"
Would it be a bad idea to ressurect a 79 244DL after several years of sitting in a dusty garage?
The owner put the car into the garage drained the fuel and let it sit for the past 6 years. He says it ran like a dream but the in-tank pump was bad and he didn't have time to work on it and saw my ad for a wtb Volvo and called me.
I looked the car over and it was dusty and dirty but sheltered all those years. My main concern is the fuel injection system and coolant system since there is coolant in the tank. I'm afraid the water pump will be bad and the injection system will have dried out or something.....Isn't this model and year have the fussy fuel injection system I've read about...you know the mechanical one?
Otherwise its cool car with the manual tranny and well built body and interior.
Am I asking for trouble at 750 bucks since I'm not able to actually hear the engine? It is free and turns over but the owner thinks a few hours of work and its should be good to go....Has 149,000 original miles.

I it were me, I would go for it. A manual is almost worth it all for me. Check for rust in the rockers. The K-jet can be a problem from sitting. They just don't like that. Since you don't really know and depending on the resources that you have I might ask for a bit less unless you can get it to sputter. Don't forget the cost of a battery and possible having to replace the CIS unit. If you can find one in a junk yard it may be pretty cheap. But you may not need one anyway if fuel was drained out of the CIS unit too. Those units are supposedly not rebuildable, but I have my doubts about that. So some food for thought.
It sounds like fun.
