'79 245... What is this item on back of gauge cluster?
Greetings...New user here. I was just given a 1979 245 and working out some bugs. I have the gauge cluster out to check bulbs and other functions. On the back of the cluster; on the galvanized speedo housing there is an unused brass threaded socket. Nothing is attached. What is it for? Would like to know before I reinstall.
Also, down near the core support, near the wash reservoir and the radiator, there is what looks like an emission canister for two hoses. One hose goes down under the core support, The other fitting (more forward of the two) has a missing air/vacuum hose. Where does the hose need to be connected to on/in the engine bay? I suppose it could influence emissions or engine vacuum. Your replies appreciated.

Don't know about the gauge cluster but the canister is probably the charcoal canister - 1 hose hose goes back to the tank to catch and store gas fumes and the other hose goes to somewhere near the throttle plate to pull those fumes into the engine above idle speed. That's part of the evaporative emission system - catching fumes from the tank and burning them rather than venting them to the air.
Or the tank (if it's all metal) could be for storing vacuum for the cruise control to use (if equipped)
