82 240 No Fuel or Spark.
Put a new alternator (previous one went bad) in my 240 yesterday and all was well.
Started it up after getting everything back together and checked to see that the alternator was charging, let the car idle for about 10 minutes then shut it off.
Came back about an hour later started it, ran for about 10 seconds and just died.
Cranked on it for a while and no start, noticed I didn't smell any gas, so I pulled an injector and cranked it over an no fuel.
Fuel pump turns on and primes as normal when the key is turned on, but no gas when cranking.
Decided to check for spark, nothing there also, no spark from the coil, but the coil is getting power and the primary resistance
is right at 1.0ohms where it should be.
Not sure where to go from here. If it was just fuel or spark missing it would make a little more sense to me, but both just going "poof" at once
has me confused.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Your should have CI injection I would check the wiring Harness good.
Not really sure where to go from here either.
Maybe check the Dist. make sure the module in the Dist didn't go bad.

Yeah, It's K-Jet. I am going to go over the harness tonight.
After a ton of reading today, I am leaning towards the ignition control module. As I understand it, the coil sends a pulse to the control relay when the car is cranking "telling" it that the car is running and then it passes on power to the fuel pump relay to pump fuel. If the module is not working I'm guessing that the relay is not getting the pulse. That would explain why the fuel pump primes when the key is turned, but doesn't pump when cranking. Also obviously would explain the lack of spark. Just a guess on my part though.

Those control relays are known to go as well.
Mine went on mine when I had it.

Any idea where I can find the control relay? Chiltons or Haynes do not list the location.
Don't know if this would help. I've got a 740 GL and had the same problem. Was told by a guy who rebuilds them to replace the crankshaft speed sensor. Supposedly the flakiest part on the whole engine.
Worked for me. Maybe for you
