Wink '85 240 dl stalling in gear

Hello everyone! I have a tough one that I have been trying to solve. I am having trouble with my 240 dl stalling once started it seems to idle fine but then stalls. I have to start again and leave my foot on the gas or else dies. After 10 minutes or so it seems to run fine, but if I try to shift in D or R it instantly dies. It doesn't matter if I had just drove 50 miles parked and run into the store for 15 min, when I come back out to start it I have to sit for 10 min running with my foot on the gas before trying to shift into gear.

I bought a new fuel pump relay, I have done the smoke test, no leak. Any suggestions?

suspects include coolant temp sensor (and wiring to it), idle air control valve (and rubber tubes to it), idle position switch, throttle body gum preventing idle position switch from activating, general air leaks in/around the intake manifold and injectors.

tons of diagnostic suggestions on this page,

your engine is pretty much the same as a similar year 740, with LH 2.2, so don't let the frequent mention of 740/940 fool you. LH 2.4 came out in 1989 on both 240 and 740/940 and has a few key differences but much of it is still pretty much the same.

Thanks for the advice. After researching and fiddling around in the engine compartment I was just about to give when a sprayed a couple of squirts of throttle cleaner in the MAF and it seemed to do the trick. However, now I noticed a hissing sound on the rear passenger side by the tire. Maybe the fuel filter? Fuel Pump?

loosen the gas cap, does the hissing stop? might be a clogged charcoal vapor recovery cannister system...
