Default '85 245 DL license plate light mystery

Can't figure this one out. All rear light clusters (fog, reverse, parking & brake) functioning. Replaced both license plate light bulbs with new (5W). Removed interior tailgate panel to inspect wiring... all like new, connectors secure, contacts are fine, ground wire secured. #15 fuse in the box (8A) is fine... this fuse services all left parking lights and the tailgate license plate lights. Need to amp test the bulb housing itself, but this shouldn't be happening... both lights?

When you had the tailgate panel off did you check if you were getting 12V at the license plate light fixture?

It sounds like a break in the wiring harness that goes through the left tailgate hinge.

No, somebody "borrowed" my tester...I need to get a new one and test thelamp housing. There's gotta be a break somewhere, but the harness in the tailgate for the plate lights are fine... the hinge doesn't look likeany wires arecut or damaged. I'll find out as soon asI get a tester tomorrow, thanks.
