86 740 Turbo wagon
Hey guys......new guy here. Just acquired a non-running Volvo for a weekend project. Probably gonna have some questions real soon and I hope someone can help me out. First thing I have to do is get some injectors to replace the ones the previous owner removed and lost and reinstall the distributor. Car wouldn't start and they figured out that it was an electrical problem but have no idea why they took the injectors out.

Thanks....hopefully I will have time today after work to dive into this thing and get an inventory of parts needed to make this motor complete again. Then I can start troubleshooting.
Ok......got to take a look and do some inventory on the new acquisition. Need 4 injectors for sure. Distributor seems to be all there, but I noticed the pickup coil is loose in the distributor housing. Looks like 2 pins sticking through holes in the housing, but nothing to hold it stationary. One pin fits fairly snug but the other housing hole is about twice as big as the pin on the pickup coil. Is something missing? Also noticed a missing component on the front side of the passenger side strut tower. All thats there is an unconnected harness connector. Anyone know what goes there?
Any way you can post a pic of the empty plug?
The plastic piece usually breaks in the dist. Housing the wires.
It is replacable. That will also stop it from running.

So you're saying the pickup coil in the distributor has a plastic piece thats broken off? If so, does that mean I'll have to buy a new pickup coil or is there a seperate peice thats broken?
The plastic plug where the harness connects is what I am talking about.
The black piece that the plug connects to alot of times breaks and shorts out on the Dist.

Update......got my distributor reassembled and installed. Got my injectors off ebay yesterday, new o-rings and installed. Now I need help with the coil wires. I have 4 wires. One big fat grey wire(looks like the power wire), one white wire, and two blue wires. Which ones go to the + side?
Ok....I figured out the blue one was power and the white goes on the - side. I have fuel at the pressure regulater, spark, fresh gas, but it sounds like its trying to start but not quite. When I stop cranking though I get a backfire on the exhaust side. Any suggestions?

Ok.....I had it right then. Did some more checking. Pulled the timing cover and noticed the cam gear marks didn't line up with the bottom pulley on the 0 mark. Lined everything back up and its still not right. Looks like my outer ring on the balancer has slipped. The belt looks new and the previous owner didn't say anything about installing a new belt. Looks like they have the timing wrong. Anybody have a spare balancer?
Tried to set it by sticking a screwdrive in the number sparkplug hole and turning the crank until I found TDC. I must not have got it close enough. Still wouldn't run. One thing I noticed though, the rotor is closer to the #3 tower than the #1 when the cam timing marks are lined up. Is that normal or has something else slipped?
I pulled the crank pulley this morning and the lower timing cover. Rolled the crank until the marks lined up, but didn't expect to see what I saw. All marks lined up. I just guessed at TDC and the intermediate pulley location yesterday. One thing still doesn't look right though. The rotor points to #3 plug wire tower instead of #1. Am I missing something? I know that the rotor won't line up with #1 exactly at TDC, but is it suppose to be that far away? Rotor only goes on one way, distributor only goes in one way, with those white marks lined up the bolts line up with the marks the washers left on the housing. I tried taking out the distributor hold down bolts yesterday to see if I rotated the distributor further if it would run, no luck.
