Default 87 240 heater fan

I recently helped my daughter purcahse her first car, a 1987 240 wagon. It needs to have the heater fan replaced and I understand it is a bear, any sugestions would be appreciated.

Bear is perhaps an understatement. Tackling it yourself expect to lose an entire weekend. Be extremely careful removing the fan impellers from the motor shafts. They can and do break; not a pretty sight. Alternately, get three estimates and some recommendations and have a shop do it for you. Thirty years ago, my brother-in-law was a master Volvo tech. He and a partner would dive in from both front doors w/ every tool needed for the job. They could knock it out in 35-40 minutes. I believe it is a 4 hour job according to AllData. The first couple of times I did one were somewhat traumatic!

For a nice writeup on how to do it, check out http://www.cleanflametrap.com/

Good luck.

ITS A NIGHTMARE..also have the shop replace the fan control switch (the one you turn 1-4) and the resistor, otherwise, burn your money, because you'll re do the job in no time. those extra parts are only about 30 bucks anyway.
