Default 88 240 fuel issue

I have an 88 240 and about 2 weeks ago it started to sputter and stalled. I had about a half tank of gas and put the hood to see if there was any visible vacuum hoses off. About a half an hour passed and she started running again. The same thing happened again today and after sitting about 1/2 hours she ran again. I don't know if the fuel pump is overheating if that is even possible. Has anyone experienced this before? I also live in Tucson where it's been 100 degrees lately. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

How many miles are on it? Is it an original in-tank pump?

There are 248000 miles on it and I don't know if it's the orginal pump in the tank. I purchased a fuel filter yesterday which I will change today and I'm prepared to do both the external and internal fuel pumps.

Your in-tank pump might be on its last limb if it is original. As for the main pump, those things either work, or they don't and are quite resilient, I would not bother changing that right now as long as it is not making any loud buzzing noises.

Thanks for the info. I went to change the fuel filter yesterday and that turned into a huge debacle. Now under pressure fuel spurts out on the 18 mm side. I have the copper washers installed correctly, but it doesn't want to seal properly. Have you ever heard of that?

Did you replace the fuel line between the pump and filter?

The solder connections on the relay are falling apart; resolder the connections or replace the relay.

No I didn't change the fuel line between pump and filter. I will check the relay for the original issue. Thanks
