Default '88 240 mystery relay (?) and window switch question

Hello again, I come back with an odd find and a part number question.

After I picked up the car Saturday, I went ahead and got a fresh new battery for it, and found this hiding underneath the old one. It's looking like it should have a cover on it, whatever it is, and I wonder if it's contributing to the fuel pump issue. (I ordered the new fuel pump relay which should get here tomorrow, I guess I'll know if that solves the problem then.)

I've got window switches like this, just the front two are powered. As you can see, I'm missing one. I put the existing switch on the other window's wires and it works fine, so (thankfully) only a switch is needed. A few parts catalogs I've looked at online only seem to have the same the types of window switches that go in the door. Could I use a generic "dash switch" for that... or I'm guessing there's just a part number out there that's eluding me.

Thanks again for your assistance. =)

Holy Cow, Batman...them are some OLD window switches. Like, 79 and older. Either the po engineered the power windows or some small dealership converted to power windows the old skool way. Do you have plastic circular plugs on the door cards where a crank would go? That's a dead giveaway that it's a dealer swap. Regardless, there have definitely been some alterations...but after 22 years it is to be expected. That relay is intriguing; would have to trace the wires.

Yes, the small plastic plugs just as you described. Interesting info!

Those window switches are EXTREMELY scarce nowadays. I have a used one I could send you; not sure it works but it should. Yours for the shipping costs...probably $6 should doit. PM me and I'll give you my p/p address and you can give your mailing address.

Hey, what you found hiding under or besides the battery is a headlight step relay which should be on the power bar where the 12V junction box is. almost flush with the power steering liquid reservoir and coil). It has an aluminum cover.
