Default 88 245 high pitched squeal from back of car.

What could be cause a high pitched squeal that comes from the back of my 245 when I'm driving? It happens most often when I'm going 30-40 mph and then again at about 55-70. It CEASES when I apply the brake which I find odd.

I did change the rear rotors and pads recently.

I'd take another look at your brake job. I know they're new, but what you're describing is the brake warning tab gitting the rotor which is normal when the pads are thin...possibly something didn't go back together quite right?

Swift, thanks for the suggestion. I've definitely considered it, especially since I just swapped out the outside pads (couldn't figure how to compress the inside pistons). The inside pads looked like they have some life left so I just left them on, but maybe I'll give it another shot at compressing the piston and see if it eliminates the noise with newer pads.

Quick question though, would the brake warning tab be making this noise when I'm NOT braking? I would have thought the squealing would have happened during braking, not when I've got my foot on the gas. ???

i live on a gravel logging road
and rear disc brakes
have been notorious
for getting a stone in the wrong place
but it is also prob a good time
to take a good look at
your u joints
and hanger bearing

When the wear indicator starts hitting the disc, it typically makes noise all the time...just a different sound when in use. I would take a peek fairly soon as Volvo rotors don't have much metal on 'em for turning if they need it.
