'88 740 no one seems to be able to fix it!
Hi!
I have an 88 740. 3 weeks ago it just cut out, totally died while my husband was driving home from work.
We got it towed to a garage and a faulty coil pack was diagnosed. The car was sparking - but the engine wouldn't turn over.
The coil pack was replaced - the car still wouldn't work.
New HT leads were fitted - still nothing.
A new distributor was fitted - the car then started but the engine wasn't running properly.
The engine timing was looked at (timing belt was adjusted) and the car ran well....
However, it now sometimes won't start.
The guy at the garage is pretty stumped and is talking about having it scrapped. I've asked him to have a look at the fuel pump relay. Is there anything else that he should be looking for or should I just cut my losses with my lovely 740?
Thanks.

Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com. It has a nice diagnosis no-start troubleshooting guide for 740/940s.
