89 740 GLT Fuel pump issue?
I have an opportunity to buy a 740 Turbo in an auction. THe car starts, runs and drives, but has an intermittant fuel pump issue. Are these common to fail? I know there are two of them, a transfer pump in the tank, and a HIgh Pressure pump on the chassis. WHich usually goes out or are there other issues that usually cause an intermittant stall?

RE: 89 740 GLT Fuel pump issue?
Intermittent stall can be fuel pump relay, in tank prepump usually if under 1/2 tank full, main pump, ign module, distributor pickup or speed sensor depending on year. Fuel pump relay is common if you wack the relay and car restarts replace relay (available last time I looked for $20 fcpgroton. Behind ashtray second row large white relay on left by drivers knee. you can also whack main pump and they get like that when the brushes are worn (how many miles) in tank pump is usually when you get to less than 1/2 tank but there are no garantees. If speed sensor back looks rotted or plastic connector on back of distributor is shot that may be your problem. I will give you a link.
