Hi -
just purchased an 89 volvo 240 wagon about a month ago, automatic. I just had the ac converted in the shop last week. yesterday I took it out for the first real drive since getting it repaired, probably put 140 miles on it roundtrip. anyways, right before I was to reach my destination, i noticed the overdrive arrow dimly lit for a moment. i thought perhaps i accidentally grazed it as it dimmed off. when i went to fill it up, it was lit again as i pulled of, dimly. now when i stopped at a stop sign and actually pushed the overdrive button i felt the overdrive engage, but when the light comes on without me doing anything, its just coming on, i don't feel the overdrive engaging or revving, or the like. i've read several different threads about it possibly being the solenoid or relay. but it seems that perhaps the light is just coming on, could it be a short? could they have conveniently messed something up under the dash when they were repairing the ac? any info would be appreciated. thanks!

 

Have you checked your fluid level in the transmission when the car is warm?



I don't know if it is supposed to or not but on mine it comes on when the transmission needs fluid.
