Default '90 740 STARTS STRONG, THEN DIES

I've got a '90 740 turbo wagon that will start, run strong for about 2-3 seconds, then dies. I've already done a round of superficial testing:

Electrical - I unplugged the distributor and checked for sparkfrom the coil wire.
Mechanical - I removed the oil cap to make sure the cam turned when the engine's cranked.
Fuel - I disconnected the line from the fuel rail to make sure I had flow to the injectors.

All checked out okay. I replaced the crank position sensor3 years ago, new fuel pressure regulator two months ago, new fuel injector relay, in-tank fuel pump (and sock) secondary fuel pump andfuel filter about 3 years ago.

The error code in memory saidthe MAF sensor or sensor wiring was bad. Would a bad MAF alter timing so much as to cause a no-start situation? The car also sat for about a week during a snow and a few days of cold weather, followed by some warmer days. I put in a dose of fuel drier, but could I have more moisture build up in the tank from the temperature change that could be causing this problem? - Please advise

I would go to a junk yard and find a MAF sensor and start there. Obviously there's a problem there.

Unplug the MAF and if it starts and idles good the MAF is bad.

If your main fuel pump has died, your car won't start. But the in-tank pump will still deliver fuel, thus giving a false positive. Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com and get free guide to troubleshooting 740 no-starts.

Well I disconnected the MAF sensor and was able to go round the block a few times.
I'll let you know what happens when I install the replacement.

Thanks Gents
