Default 91 240 wont start

so i bought a 90 240 and was told it needed a neutral safty switch... bought the part put it in and she started right up and ran like a champ... in the first ride i was messing with the lights and misc stuff... i noticed when i turned on the lights the car bogged a little bit. i was told there was also a lighting issue. parked the car went to go register it came back and the car wont even turn over now. the dash cluster isnt working now and when i tried to start the car the would jump and then zero. went through fuses and wiggled a few connectors and nothing. electrical is my big weak spot. anyone got any ideas on what could be the problem? my shifter assembly is loose and i heard that it could be the linkage bushings???? but i think it has something to do with the lighting circut. thanks for your input.

Sounds like you have a battery cable issue. Does the car crank when you try to jump it? If so, make sure the battery cable connections are good. Then follow the cables and make sure the ends are good.

Is your car a '90 or a '91 (title of your post says '91 but your text says '90)? Reason being is that on '90 models, there is a 25amp fuse that is bolted to the drivers side fender just to the rear of the battery. When it rains, water gets in there and corrodes the fuse and causes bad connections. In '91 they relocated the fuse to a different spot (I don't know where since I never had any problem with it on my '91).

Follow the smaller of the red wires from the battery and it should lead to this fuse. Pull it and check for corrosion. Also make sure the battery wires are good and tight. If all this checks out, next check your battery voltage. If it is under 12v, then most likely you have a short somewhere that drained your battery.

on my daughter's 87, that fuse holder was corroded and crumbling/brittle. I replaced it with a marine grade waterrproof one and a new 25A fuse. being an electronics geek, I actually soldered and shrunkwrap my splices, but good quality crimps with a bit of silicone waterproofing goo would be fine.
