91 740 parts
So I came across a very good condition 740 turbo in the local parts yard the other day. I've heard that it's possible to swap the 240 in-tank fuel pump with the 740's in tank for more flow and power. Fact or fiction?
I think that I'll tear off the passenger side mirror from the 740 because I'm in need of it on my 940. Also think I'll take the instrument cluster in hopes that I can put it into the 940. Unless, of course, someone here tells me that those are not compatible parts. They LOOKED like they would be direct swaps though.
Is there any other parts that I should look for on a 91 740 that would be worth taking and using on either an 88 245 or 91 940 that would upgrade either car?
Thanks.

I always check for aftermarket performance parts like IPD swaybars, chassis braces, braided steel brake hoses, etc. all of which I have found on junkyard cars. I also frequently grab relays to carry as spares. I swap them out immediately and use the known good one I took out of my car as the spare.
You can pull a cluster out of a 240 in 5-10 minutes and in another couple of minutes have the speedo out and apart, looking for a good (as in "already replaced") odometer gear. Any 240 tripmeter that is not showing all zeros is usually worth a look.
I've learned that you can never have too many spare parking and tail light lenses, parking lots being what they are.
Certain hoses on the turbos are ridiculously expensive at the stealer, but ridiculously cheap at the junkyard.
Basically, any part that's better than the one you've got on your car is usually worth grabbing, although I personally do not mess with oxygen sensors or anything that is a PITA to replace, like a 240 heater core. If I ever need one of those, I'm buying new, cuz I'm told that's a job you don't want to do more than once in your lifetime..
When it comes to recycling used parts, we're really a bunch of *******. I read somewhere that 85% of the parts on most cars going to the crusher are still servicable. I went to wreckyard in Mexico once, years ago. It was mainly just a bunch of frames. Think of a Thanksgiving turkey after two days on an anthill and you've got the picture.

never heard that about a 240 pump....
the instrument cluster is the same, but the tach will be different, but you should be able to swap them out...
91 and 92 740/940's are almost the same car with subtle body differences... the turbos may have some subtle mechanical differences, but mostly the same...

90+ turbo exhaust manifold is something I've been looking for. They flow better than the old one. I hear they are best to post out the opening a bit. If your car is turbo that manifold is worth a little hp. I went to the local euro yard and they wanted 100 bucks for one. That's outrageous. I find that they have a rep among other yards as being overpriced. I think that they think that they are selling new car parts.
Pay attention to the mirror color, I don't remember when they started painting them body color, instead of black.

I assume the 90+ turbo ex. manifold would not fit on an 88 240 dl, probably wouldn't make any difference in hp anyway on the 240. I've gotta get that B-cam in the car and see how it does. And now I'm just rambling. Good night.
