Cool 91 740 sometimes wont start, but always starts when jumpstarted...

Hi!

oh lawd! this car is something else. just recently i had some major repairs done to it. it would die while i was driving it. my mechanic couldn't figure out the problem until i told him about what i read on a honda forum lol. actually, on hondas it is a very common problem with the distributor. so, instead of 150 bucks my bill ended up being $520, because my mechanic didnt know what he was doing (he baptized it "the car from hell")...

now, my current problem is that my car sometimes does not start. but it will always start right up when being jump started. this happens most often after it was driven and had been sitting for a couple hours. it will start up if i just shut it off and right back on. sometimes it also wont start in the mornings. usually i was able to wiggle some wires kick a tire and cuss at the car to get it to start up after 10 - 15 min of being stranded. but recently it was necessary to jump start it.

in addition, i have a problem with the overdrive gear, but thats either a solenoid or some relay.

i had autozone check my battery and alternator and everything is fine.

so, i dont know whats going but i appreciate any kind of advice yall have to offer.

If it always starts when jumped but doesn't when not jumped then the battery voltage is low. You (or a competent tech) will need to determine why it is getting low.

See my advice here regarding letting AutoZone dudes diagnose my car...

when the mechanic did all those weird repairs, he did some of those based on the error code he got. that was a problem with a "ground" connection. so what he did was he installed 2 cables at my battery ports. one is going from a port to a fender and the other goes to the near the engine. maybe disconnecting those wires will fix the problem of the battery?

Lightbulb Its either one of three things....

I had that problem a while back and it ended up being the fuel pump was going out. It actually took 2 days and 2 trips to the shop for the guys to find the problem one minute the pump was fine the next it was destroyed. Or it can be the alternator is faulty some how. Most recently I was having a problem with starting and it ended up just being that I needed to have everything cleaned out, just a basic tune up. Hope that helps.
