91 740 wagon, 31 MPG at 75 MPH, 145K
Just drovefrom Albuquerque, NMto Dallas, TX and recorded 31 MPG +. Not bad for 145K! Passed emissions with flying colors, less than 1/3 the standard limits set for CO and NO. Great car, glad it's a non turbo model.

Your post is good news to me.
My '89 740 has been with me for a little over a month. The best I've done is 28 MPG in mixed, but mostly highway miles. In a week or two I'm going to travel from CA ==> MI and we'll see just how well this guy runs. I'm thinking I might be able to break 30 MPG in it.
1. Non-turbo
2. M47 5-sp manual xmission with brand new clutch
3. Cruise control set at ~75 MPH.
4. New Yokohamas set just below max inflation
My A/C is broken, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Gawd! Gas prices here in CA are $2.70+ a gallon, and that's at the super cheap stations.

I too have scored 31mpg in my 91 740 wagon, but I sure wasn't doing 75mph! I have to wonder why car manufacturers tout that their 4 door compact sedans get 30 mpg as something wonderful when volvo was getting this mileage 16years ago with cars that weigh twice as much!
