Unhappy 92 740 stalling and no power issue

ok as stated 92 740 its an auto non turbo 2.3 wagon...had the car less than a month previous owner said fuel pump (in tank its only one car has) and pressure regulator and inline fuel filter were replaced but it fouled plugs shortly after and he never messed with it after..i replaced the plugs with brand new autolites that i use in all my vehicles put gas and a new battery in it and it fired right up idled fine but the minute it is put into gear mostly reverse it bogs out sputtering and will stall if i dont hit the gas to keep it going. the tank is full with new gas and injector cleaner (fireball super concentrated) but it still does it and while driving when the gas is pushed it cuts out or starts skipping and will either stall or down shift then idle high but run and gain speed it is constant everytime its driven and 70% of the time i have to either double foot it or put it in neutral at times pressing the gas to stay running. the only other way to make it actually take of and gain speed normal is to pin the pedal to the floor causing it tokick the rpms up and then take off. oils been changed cap, wires and coil look fine noticed the filter despite being told has not been changed in along time from past cars im assuming its a fuel issue but im used to chevy and other General motors cars this is the first volvo i have ever owned or worked on. im at a loss i dont want to keep dumping money into it on parts i dont need and its a good car if only would run right.

First thing you need to determine is the type of ignition/fuel system you have. The 740's came in two flavors. One had the dual pumps similar to the 240s. Others had the Regina system which had a single pump located in the tank. To check which system you have, take a look at the coil. If it is round then you have the Bosch system which has two fuel pumps. If you have a square coil, you have the Regina system.
