92' 740 stalls
My 740 non turbo wagon kept stalling. My mechanic said he couldnt find a problem when hooked up to the machine. Said it might be bad gas. Fuel pressure was at 54 psi. After draining gas and puting in new gas. I still had the problem. I looked up codes found 223, Chiton's says its the signal to and from the idle valve,122 signal missing or faulty air temp sensor, which I take for the air mass sensor &132 low or high voltage. I drainied the battery abit bystarting it several times getting it home. Now should I clean these two or replace one at a time? HELP!
UPDATE! I replaced air temp. sensor. cleaned throttle body and idle valve with cleaner. new plug, air cleaner & fuel filter. A new crank sensor and dist. cap were replaced in May. I put in a fuel pressure regulator last summer. The car is still hard to start and most or the time when I open the throttle even a little bit, it dies. It does sometimes pop a little (slight backfire through intake not exhaust).

My 740 turbo had hiccups too. Gremlins are hard to solve because they are never consistent. Try easiest solutions first. Put new air filter in. Next, try a new fuel injection relay (cheap at junkyards). Visit www.stepbystepvolvo.com for diagnosing no-starts and other hints.
New fault code. When I plugged the plug into number 6, got the code 144. No load signal from the fuel system. Is something unplugged or do I need a fuel control unit? Can someone help me out? I can't find anything unplugged or find fuel control unit.

Thanks tech. for the advise. The relay is original equipment 09-09-91. I resoldered the connections in the relay and that fault code is gone. However the 223 code for the idle valve is still there. Any other sugestions before I invest over $200 for the idle valve?
