What engines do the 93 volvo 240's have?
My brother is look at getting a 1993 Volvo 240 DL, its a 4 door automatic. And what would be some good performance upgrades for it for under 3000$

 

The 93 has the B230F engine. 2.3L cranking out a raging 114 hp! The car could have either LH2.4 Jetronic fuel injection or LH3.1 If you have LH3.1 there isn't a whole lot of bolt on stuff to do. If you have LH2.4 you could have lots of fun. You can find a wrecked 740Turbo or 940T at the wrecking yard. Get the engine control unit (ECU), the ignition control unit (ICU), turbo, turbo exhaust manifold, intercooler and all the hoses. All this stuff will work with the 240 as it is essentially the same engine. Because your engine has a higher compression ratio you wont be able to run tons of boost but should be able to run 6-9 p.s.i. easily. This will increase your horsepower at least 50hp. Before you go making your car faster, you need to make certain it handles well. New struts, shocks, brake pads/possibly rotors,wheel bearing, bushings, IPD 25/25mm heavy duty sway bars will go a long way to keeping the car where you want to go! Good luck...
