Default Is my Volvo 240 a rarity? or just a common 240?

So while I was getting something out of the cargo area I noticed a sticker on the passenger side cargo area window.

This sticker said special delivery and Tourist & Diplomat sales with what looked like a Volvo 740 sedan(it is a 1990 240 so I don't think it was a 940)

I looked this up and it seems like you can go to the Volvo factory and buy a Volvo that can be shipped home to the USA. I had never heard of Volvo doing this. I had heard that you could do this with a Benz or Audi.

Volvo European Delivery...Volvo Overseas Delivery ... A unique way to see Europe and buy a new Volvo

Is my car "rare"? in terms of amount of 240's that were sold in the USA? I would not think that it would be worth any extra money but as a conversation piece it would be interesting to have a Volvo that was not only made in Sweden but that the owner bought it over there and shipped it back rather then go to the local Volvo dealer. That somebody was able to not only afford to fly to Europe, buy it and then ship it back but also insisted that he or she have a hand in everything pertaining to the car instead of being stuck with something on a dealer lot.

According to the Volvo overseas program history, they started this in 1956 and have shipped over 300,000 cars so far. That means the yearly breakdown is about 5357 cars per year

Anybody else have this sticker on their 240 or 700 series or 940/960?

I have had several Euro Delivery 740's pass through my hands, I think the stickers ended in the late '80s... I have never seen one on a model newer than 1989. The '85 740 I had, had the owner's manual in a specially nice Volvo folder marked " Diplomat and Tourist Sales". Besides the sticker, nothing else is different as these cars are "American Specs", nothing exotic about them besides the fact that they drove around Europe a bit more...

The Volvo Overseas Delivery is still going strong; it is a good deal if one is on the market for a new Volvo--you get a free trip to Europe and more, included in the price of the car. Too bad new Volvos are not something I'd consider buying.

I purchased the 740 GLE that I had overseas. In Japan actually. Nothing special about the car other than you may be able to get euro colors or interior features. I believe you can also save a little off the sticker even though the trip would drive that price up. I saved about $7,000 on my 740. They were selling for $24,000+ in USA and I paid about $17,500.

Mine was purchased by a man in the UK, then at some point was shipped over here. I even have an original tax stamp, so it was used for a while. Not really practical though since it would be RHD on LHD roads, unless he used it as a Royal Mail van, heh heh.
