Default 940 GLE, 1998 model, automatic (Saloon Car)

One of my friend is having the subject car. Yesterday while he was driving back to home he felt a sudden lose of power in the engine. Now the engine goes to high RPM whereas he can hardly get the speed to 40 KM.

What could be the reason for this sudden lose of power.. Any help will be highly appreciated as my friend is in great problem

By the way, it is a Turbo.

If the RPM's go up but the car won't move good that means a slipping transmission.

Check the fluid first and see if it is low.

You are 100% right. When i drove my friends car it ultimately stopped after driving for 3 or 4 KM. Had also checked the gear oil before the drive. It was up to the required mark. Well the transmission is gone.

Have searched for a good gear box from the junk yard. Any views that we should go for the old or the new gear box. The junk yard owner is going to fix it and he is also giving wranty for that.

What are your views or your experience say about that....

Used as long as it is in pretty good shape is good.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. What kind of warranty are they giving you?

They are giving a warranty of a years time. Any thing goes wrong related to the gear box, they are responsible for that.

We are getting this gear box in 2000 Dirham, (Meaning 545 US $) including their fixing / Filter & oil charges. I think its not a bad deal at all.

Once again thanking you for your help

Sounds good to me. I'd jump all over that. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!

So now we have changed the gear box. The car is running like a new one. The gear shifting is very smooth, and now we feel that the gears are changing with the engine RPM.

We are under warranty so no fear at all.

Thanking you once again for your help guys
