940 oil consumption
Hello. I have a '92 940 Wentworth turbo with 130k miles that is consuming a fair amount of oil, ~2 quarts a month. I haven't seen any obvious leaks on the ground or any smoke when driving. Any ideas what the problem could be? Also, the turbo is shot. Thx.
At least, I think the turbo is shot. When driving, the turbo needle does not enter the white area at all. The car drives fine apart from that. How would I check the intercooler for oil? Thx.
How does the car drive? A bad turbo makes them sluggish to say the least.
What happens when you punch it?
First, open the turbo plumbing, the big hose on the turbo side where it connects to the intercooler, and look for signs of oil. If it's oily, like actual pooling, as opposed to just residue, take out the cooler and see if it has oil settled on the bottom. Also, check your coolant for oil. In rare cases oil may blow into the coolant through bad head gasket/head.
