Default 940 poor acceleration

Hello, I have a '92 940. The car is having acceleration issues. Sometime it runs fine, until it gets really hot. But what happens is when I put my foot on the gas, forward or back, there's not power. It just sputters for a while and then kicks in to normal acceleration. When i stop at the light and put my foot down to go, it does the same thing. It'll start off at 5-10mph then will kick in a few seconds. when on the highway it gets up to 55 then starts to sputter the kicks in, but it still won't really get past 60. Any ideas on what's going on?

Could many things like a plugged cat, bad fuel pump(s), bad gas, bad engine misfire etc. You have to start with good tune up, go from there...

"Misfire under load" is often ignition-related. How old are your plugs/wires?

Does it run any better with a full tank? If you have an in-tank booster pump that's out, the car will start but will run worse and worse as the fuel level gets below about half a tank. Not uncommon.

My experience is that it is often something ridiculously simple, like a broken vacuum hose, that is causing the problem, while I'm thinking up all kinds of high tech worst case scenarios. Like tedv suggested, best to start with the basic tune up stuff. It starts the process of elimination, and it's necessary maintenance, anyhow. Good luck with it.

I changed the plugs and wires and air filter. No change. Also replaced the TPS. Alittle better. Could it also, be Air mass meter? How do you unplug a cat without replacing it?

a bad cat will only cause your car to stall at high speeds or up large hills, not starting out...sounds like something with the fuel delivery or maybe a hole in your bellows...check your bellows and test your MAF...or could be a bad fuel pressure regulator/bad injectors...definately a fuel related issue or a timing issue...I have also seen a bad crank angle sensor cause this issue cause it controls your fuel and timing...I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it if it were at my shop a timing light and an injector test light and see what fails when the problem occurs...have you checked for codes?
