940 shifter issue
I have a 93 940 sedan. I just had the car to a shop to replace the shift lever. The old one was dry rotted and disintegrating. The mechanic said I needed a shifter assembly. The car will shift into another gear without depressing the button on the lever. Example- it could accidentally get pushed up into reverse while driving down the road. Anyone have experience with this?
If it feels sloppy then it's probably a cheap, little bushing that keeps it in alignment. I have a '93 and it wore out. So I replaced it with this - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vvo...ns-mtc-1220141 and it works smooth now.
was the mechanic referring to the button in the shift handle that broke? (that button actuates the interlock release)... If so, I'd start by going to a dealer web store to view the parts diagram and find the volvo part number then search eBay and Amazon (assuming the dealer site shows the part as discontinued).
do you see the part on this diagram to get a part number?

As to finding used parts you can search yards to see who may have a 940 via car-part.com or try a Volvo specialist like Erie Vo Vo. You can also try ebay or craigslist to see who's parting a 940...
