Talking 940 suspension work question

I am planning on purchasing a 91 940 Turbo and I had a Volvo Mechanic take a look at it to be sure. Basically this is what needs to be replaced:

Both ball joints bad
Strut Rod bushings GONE
Front struts
Alignment

How much would I be looking to spend and the difficulty level of putting this together myself? I am not new to suspension work but I am new to 940's. I was quoted basically 1,000 to put all this on by the Volvo shop. Any suggestions on where to get the parts, the cost for doing it myself and how difficult is it.

Thank you for all the help!!!!

If you have done suspension work before...this will be no different. ~$400-$600 all depends on what you get.
These cars are pretty straight forward, so just order the parts and give it a good day or two to have it done.

https://volvoforums.com/forum/general-volvo-chat-5/volvoforums-resources-thread-7317/ this link has a bunch of aftermarket and OEM sites.

FYI.....The 940 is basicly the same as the 740, and some of the parts are interchangeable.

Good luck

Thanks! The car is in rough shape (body & suspension) but the drivetrain is solid. I have replaced shocks, springs, trac bars, tie rod links etc. BUT I have NEVER replaced a Strut before. I know it sounds strange but I have never had to replace them on a car before. Only on Jeeps & Trucks.

The ball joints will be a first for me but I thought those would be easier than the Struts.

Do I need anything special for the strut removal or ball joints?

Thanks again.

I cant remember is you will need anything special....
Just pick up a shop manual to assist, like haynes. It should have all you need in terms of torque specs, and tools needed.
oh......The struts are inserts on these cars...

Here is a pic to help:

Good luck.

I agree, this repair should be $500 in a shop, and quite within the DYI abililties. Parts should be around $250... max.
