Default 940 wheels

I have a 1992 940 gl. I want to put some MB Monoblock wheels( pictured) The wheels are(Offset: 29mm front & 35mm rear) 18x8 ft and 18x9 rr. I know the wheels are 5x112, and volvo is 5x108. My question is, will 18x9 rr wheels fit with out problems.

I don't know about the backspacing issue, but the bolt pattern won't work without an adapter.....

to run a 18" wheel on a 740/940, your sidewalls would be so short, the ride would be harsh as all get-out. you'd have to run really high air pressure and you'd still get sidewall pinches and flats on potholes and such. and, 8-9" wide, ouch, those tires belong under a camaro or something.

The biggest wheels *I* would put on a 940 wagon are 16x6.5, with the required 5x108 bolt pattern and a 20-25mm offset, and P205/55-R16 tires. a larger offset means the wheels ride farther in towards the center of the car, which means a much higher probability of scraping the struts etc..

buy a chrysler that comes with 20s if you want that pimpdaddy look.

that orange car looks like its got NO suspension travel. I hope you don't actually plan on driving this car on the road at any speed above a crawl. the first pothole you hit will likely flat one of those uber-thin tires and bend your expensive rims.

imho, this is what a 740/940 should look like...

The wheels I want are not "that" deep. These are the exact wheels I want. The lip is not that deep... The pic of the volvo is my car on 20's

no mercedes wheel will ever fit on a volvo, mercedes uses a 5 x 112mm bolt pattern, volvo uses 5 x 108mm bolts.

anyways, the visual 'depth' of the wheel is mostly an illusion. what *counts* is the diameter, width, and offset. the standard wheels for a RWD volvo 240/740/940 have a 20-25mm offset, this means the centerline of the tire is about 20-25mm from the back side of the bolt pattern part of the rim. the newer FWD volvos use a 40mm offset, so if you were to put one of those wheels on a 740/940, the center line of hte tire would be about 15-20mm too far inside, unless you use a 15-20mm spacer between the hub and the wheel (and, frankly, considering just how critical wheel integrity is to the safety of driving, I don't want no spacers in there).

Assuming the tires don't scrape, rear wheel offset doesn't matter but in the fronts, messing with the offset will drastically effect how the car turns

Contact Dale for custom adapters: Avalanche Performance

a 9 is fairly wide. fenders might need some rolling. maybe some pulling.

like pierce said, it's an illusion... if there's not much showing out front, then most of it is tucked in behind. there's not much room on a 9 series wheelwell, and the in the pics, you can see that the outer fender lip is indeed pulled out and rolled. inner fenders are probably tubbed.

I can vouch that 205/55-16's fit perfectly on Volvo 16x6.5 rims

V8 in it! 960 wagon springs up front, wagon helper springs in back. That was before I weighed both engines and found out the SBF/T5 only weighs 54 pounds more than the B230/AW70 with iron heads. W/ aluminum heads, the SBF weighs less...swapped springs and went to this...

that car must really tee off the 'stangers, hahahaha. probably be a total hoot on a proper road racing track, too, although god only knows what class they'd let you run in.

Swift nice job. Just a question here . Is it easier to use a SBF vs. a SBC engine. Also are you going with a carb or FI setup. Are you still using the 2 piece drive shaft or did you go to alumin. Thanks

the ford is a lot lighter than the typical chevy, which means the car is balanced like stock.

Swift has got his whole build on a sticky on this forum. its a 400HP+ monster.

pretty sure those are 45mm offset for the later FWD cars, so you'll need 20-25mm spacer blocks and extra long lug bolts (and have to deal with the spacers every time you change tires)
