Pull your instrument cluster out, and make sure all wires are plugged into the back of it. Stuff sometimes just falls off.

You didn't mention the model or year, so it makes diagnosing your issue very complicated.

Question speedo

Also, it seemed to break when I took it into my backyard mechanic who had to fix my ignition, or the part where the keys go in because it was burnt out (previous owner was a real estate owner) and being a single mom with a young one, I never got around to going back soon enough and then he died of cancer, which he didn't know he had (thus not fixing my car as well as he should have)....I feel it's related, but does it give any clues? Just looking online, whats a VDO? If it's a sender, there are still wires? Is that different from cables? thanks.

I recently took it into a new mechanic, and the owner said it looked like just a cable and easy to fix, but then he handed the car over to one of the workers (whose reputation is unstable) and I had to deal with him for the rest of it, and he didn't even bother fixing it for me, saying it was a sender and it would cost alot to fix and not to bother about it, I think he didn't want to bother with it, but I don't know whether to go to the owner again and tell him what happened.

My park is also stuck, I need to press the lock button down HARD to get it out of park, the owner said a crayon or penny probably just fell in and they could just take it apart and see, but the worker didn't take it apart, he said it was tight wires and he tried loosening them but didn't want to take it apart or he would just have to be buying alot of parts that would just cost me alot of money. I think the worker just doesn't like working on volvos?????

Welcome to the Forum.

VDO is the company that made some of Volvos gauge clusters in the 90s.

It sounds like you need to take this car to a good Volvo independent mechanic. Where are you located?

hi, thanks....I am in Squamish. Just got my car back today again, (sent it back) and he said the speedometer part is broken and that I need to take it to JB Auto, someone who works on Volvos, but being a small town, can be a bit expensive. I guess I am driving without a speedometer for awhile. But he did fix my sunroof and kinda fixed by gear shift (it doesn't look very cosmetically good though, but oh well.) Thank you for all your help.
