Hello folks... I own a 95 940 with 497,000 miles. My mechanic and I have been trying to solve a misfiring problem with this carfor about 6 weeks and we're at the end of our ropes, so to speak. We feel like we're chasing a gremlin around in this car. Maybe someone can help.

The car misfires randomly. My mechanic and I gave the car a complete tune-up - still misfired randomly. We checked all sorts of grounds and checked and/or replaced all sorts of sensors - still misfired randomly. We replaced the coil, the computer and the ignition switch- still misfired randomly. We replaced the fuel filter and relays - still misfired randomly. I've dumped ISOHEAT into the fuel tank, thinking I have moisture in the fuel system - still misfired randomly. We think we've covered the fuel system and the electrical system - obviuosly not.

I called IPD and they listed a number of sensors to check and my mechanic has checked/replaced all of them.

My gas mileage has dropped from about 22/24mpg around town to about 14mpg.

The car will be running beautifully and all of sudden it will start to misfire - dropping out. It's as if the car is being turned off and on quickly. And then it clears up. It will run fine for awhile and then it misfires and then it clears up. And then it runs fine for awhile and then it misfires and then it clears up. And on and on and on...

Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone shed some light on this? My mechanic and I will be forever grateful if someone has an idea or solution. Thank you in advance for your time.

 

How about valve adjustment has he checked it?
Maybe there is a valve hanging up once in a while.
