Well about a month ago I went to check out a add on Craigs list, for some 240 GL aluminum wheels, and I got them with nice tires all for $120. Not to bad....but when I attempted to install them this morning on my '87 240 there is a "sixth" lug or what ever you call it, for the speedo???? and there is no hole for the "sixth" lug on the finned aluminum wheels. Bummer.....
So is this sixth lug still being used on the later model 240's?? I also have a '92.
Can the wheels be drilled for the sixth lug or what did I end up with? they do say Volvo on the rims.

do you mean the locator pin? all RWD volvos have those, afaik
you can replace that pin with a straight hex bolt of the right length/thread... or just cut the pin off. the bolt doubles as the rotor hold-down. the pin is intended so you always mount the wheels at the same orientation relative to the hub, so you can do 'on car' balancing, but no-one does that, so it really doesn't matter.

sixth pin
Wow, cool I had no idea what it was for....I just know that the "new" aluminum wheels I got don't have the provision for the thing with no sixth hole in them. So I wander what them come off? the guy told me they were from his 240 he was parting out....and he did have two 240's on his property. and they look exactly like the wheels I see on other 240 GL around town. So I can remove the bolt thing? great!

if you remove that pin-bolt you need to replace it with a conventional bolt, or your rotor will flop around when you remove the wheel...
these are the Corona wheels?
you can see the hole at about 9pm on the two closer wheels, and various other angles up the 3 farther wheels...
edit: looked at more random pics, and the hole doesn't have to go all the way through the rims, on some of them its only on the back, and doesn't come through the front, as the pin isn't that long.

I've seen plenty of Volvos missing that pin, no doubt left off by a in a hurry professional. Once the wheel is on, it tightens the rotor and no worries. Being a purist I don't like that, but the pin is not critical.
Odd, if the OP's new wheels are Volvo they should have the extra hole for the pin though.
